In the early 1900s The Mirror was printed in conjunction with the Trenton schools. It typically included student and community poetry and student portraits. The school stopped printing The Mirror around 1927.

On March 10, 1938 the Faculty Play "Fresh Fields" under the direction of Nona Hyde was given to benefit republishing the Trenton annual. The three-act play helped make the first TAWANA possible.

The book is called TAWANA which is acronym for Trenton Annual Without A Name plus an Advisor (because originally there were two advisors) or simply plus A. The early TAWANA were made up of two staffs, a high school staff and a college staff. Mary Ellen Steckman was the high school advisor and Laverne Miller was the high school section editor. Naomi Daeschener was the college advisor and Willis Alexander was the college section editor.
