Spotlight: Graham McVay, Our Custodian of the Year!

By: Kris Ockenfels, Director of Supportive Services

I would like to thank the students, staff, parents, patrons, and community members for your amazing support of Graham McVay, in his bid to be the Cintas Custodian of the Year. Graham was named by Cintas as a national finalist after his initial nomination by the staff at THS. As one of only 10 finalists, Graham was listed on Cintas’ website with a picture, bio, and link to vote for him. The community pulled together through print and social media to vote for Graham, and the high school students posted signs in the commons in support of their beloved custodian. It was a great show of gratitude for Graham, and his many years of service to the district. I know many of the people who voted for Graham, both young and old, had him as their custodian during school and received many friendly hellos from him. Graham has been a staple of the hallways at THS for over 30 years, and is a proud alumni from the class of 1982. Graham also graduated Trenton Junior College in 1984, and started his employment with the R-IX school district in 1988. Graham has been the day custodian at the high school for the vast majority of his tenure at THS, and volunteers many hours to open the doors for community and alumni events. He is the first to arrive each morning, and will greet each student, staff, and patron with kindness and his trademark smile.

The district will recognize Graham in the near future with the help of the sponsor of the event, Cintas. Graham will receive a check for &500.00, along with other special prizes provided by the local Cintas office. Go Graham, and Go Bulldogs!
